What is a Match Dance?
A Match Dance is a function organized by our studio, which enables students
from all levels, beginner through most advanced, to perform a dance recital.
Students may dance with their (or any) instructor/s in the category of their
choice. Student may dance with other students in the category of their
choice. Listed below are different categories in which a student may dance.
1. Closed Sections. Social Entry:
Newcomers ~ Social Ease ~ Bronze Intermediate ~ Bronze Final
Silver Intermediate ~ Silver Final ~ Gold ~ Open.
This is a closed section which means there is more than one couple on the
floor at the same time dancing to studio music for one and a half minutes.
These recitals do not have to be choreographed routines but are
normal patterns taught during regular lessons.
Dress apparel:
Ballroom: Men wear tie.
Ladies wear dress or skirt.
Latin: Men wear tie or latin shirt.
Ladies wear dress or skirt.
2. Exhibitions/Showcase
Social Entry ~ Bronze ~ Silver ~ Gold ~ Open
This is an open section, which means that one couple or a group performance is
on the floor dancing to music of their choice. The music may not be longer
than two and a half minutes total. These recitals are choreographed routines.
Dress apparel:
Performers wear outfits of their choice.
Students are encouraged to bring their friends and family to support them at the match dances.
Match dances are open to any studio, teacher, or dancers
who would like to participate or be a spectator.
